Even if every single person who backed the campaign beyond the initial goal wanted the PSVR version, that’s roughly 3000 people. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the Kickstarter was funded by only -18K backers with PS4/PSVR added later in the campaign as a stretch goal, so the number of people who opted for the PSVR version back then was maybe a few thousand, and probably less.Įdit: A little more detail here: The stretch goal for PSVR (and Mac!) support was only ~$100K more than the base funding for the entire project and they just made that goal. By late 2022, 2.5 years past their original target, you’ve gotta figure that a pretty big portion of the 5-6 million people who own a PSVR will have moved on to PS5 and are no longer going to be interested in a PS4 version that probably will not run great. I think they really intended it to be on PSVR1 but between the inevitable Kickstarter delay that would have happened anyway the pandemic happened too, so it got massively delayed. The original Kickstarter target was July 2020, so PS5 wasn’t going to be out yet let alone PSVR2. They definitely knew Sony was working on it, that was public knowledge, but it was still years away.
